□ Series: Teen Wolf
□ Canon point: S1 Episode 12 - Waiting for Allison to return from the hospital.
□ History: http://teenwolf.wikia.com/wiki/Kate_Argent

□ Personality: (note some of these details are from the On Fire novelization which is not technically canon. It is very minor inclusion and only provides further examples of her personality. It does not dictate any of them.)

Kate Argent was born into hunting and it shows. She’s confident, overly so at some levels, intuitive, and prepared for the worst no matter where she is. She values her family and her position within her immediate family, but she also can find her place within a group of other hunters. She has the capability to lead and also can take orders when it’s required of her. Her methods are often not ones that sit right with the ways of her family, but with her history she shows no sign of remorse or regret for the things she’s done against the Code. As a woman, she doesn’t see herself as weaker by any means. She uses her femininity to her advantage and is equally sexual as she is manipulative.

Being an Argent means that Kate was born into a tradition that requires a wikipedia search to get to the beginning of. The Argents are steeped in the hunter Code of “Hunt those that hunt us.” and intend to follow it without fail. Kate, however, doesn’t believe the code is as proactive as she thinks they should be. She sees the risks, sees the dangers that the werewolves could present in the future and she thinks that she shouldn’t wait around for something bad to happen. She believes that they are putting themselves as the prey immediately and she doesn’t think that’s the right way to survive.

The main thing to consider about Kate and her hunting is that she ensures that her way is the way. She does the leg work, she does the background, and she makes sure that she’s right. Mostly, because she loves to be right. Her ego is a huge part of the hunter she’s become, because she pulled off the biggest kill werewolf history with the Hale house and she’s gotten away with it. Despite the ego, she knows not to brag about her kills (since it would end her up in prison) and instead she just lets it show in other ways. She gives her brother a hard time, undermines his authority when it comes to involving Allison in the history of their family, and she still tries to lead her brother toward her way of thinking -- despite his determination to stick to “The Code”.

Kate lies to her brother about how she follows the Code, even goes to the length of telling him that she always plays by the rules. It’s something to reassert herself as someone he can rely on and someone that he can trust, but it’s just another layer to her ability to manipulate people into trusting her. She uses everything she can possibly use to align herself to whoever she’s trying to gain the favor of. When she was younger it was using her body, her feminine features to lure Derek into her bed and to confirm her theory about his family. Now that she’s older, she’s able to get men from the hunting parties to go with her, ahead of the plan, drop in on Derek - get injured in the process and still not tell anyone about where they went or what they did.

She’s a button pusher, to be certain, knowing how to annoy and irk her brother (and others). She’s able to use that to her advantage to keep her close to the family and create friction so that her brother isn’t completely on his best game. She needs him to be a bit off, a bit less concerned with what she’s doing. She gives Allison information about their family, sparking that interest in what they really do and does it with more than the intent of being the cool aunt. She thinks that it’s wrong that Chris is keeping things from Allison and that it’s time that she knew more about their family. It’s completely not her call, but she doesn’t care. She’s still riding high on the fact that she thinks she knows better and so she lets her choices be filtered by that pride. She sees in Allison a possible ally and even goes so far to tell her niece that when she looks at her she sees 'Natural talent'.

Despite being a slight thorn in her brother’s side, she still values family. She calls him first when she needs back-up and she doesn’t think for a second that her brother can’t handle himself. Despite having a trunk full of weapons and special bullets that are only for putting a werewolf in pain, she still calls her brother to make sure she’s not alone. She might have a huge sense of her own successes and she might be exceptionally proud of them, but she also knows how not to let herself get in over her head. It’s one of the few things that she does take the time to stop and think about, because even if she believes the Code isn’t being used the right way, she does realize that she grew up learning it and living by it. Those sort of habits don’t just go away.

She brings others with her to check in on Derek, not because she doesn’t think she can handle it, but because she’s smart enough to know she can’t predict everything. Watching them approach the house, despite the others knowing they were supposed to wait, she lets them kick down the door. She lets them step into the building first. It’s almost like she uses them as a human shield to protect herself, making sure if Derek or anyone attacks first - she’s not in the line of fire right away. It’s her way of leading, knowing that she can give orders and they’ll be followed - even if they go against The Code that they all are meant to adhere to. She even offers them suggestions on how to insult Derek. It’s more of her ego showing through, opting to use her own personal knowledge of Derek and his sentiment toward family to really hit a soft spot. Her mannerisms, her movement through the house is still on guard, still protecting herself at every angle, but opening herself up to be seen because she wants to make sure that Derek knows this is personal. She considers him a loose end and not one that she’s going to wait around to tie up. Even when she has him chained to a wall and positioned for torture, she opts to leave herself out of the equation, knowing that she’d sooner not risk her torture getting her killed.

Her relationship with Derek is more than just complicated, it’s layered in history and deception. She knows that it’s nearly revolting to consider that she slept with a werewolf, even if her seduction was in order to gain information. It’s a line that she doesn’t think she should’ve crossed, but that doesn’t make it one she doesn’t have fond memories of crossing. She does keep it secret though and she doesn’t make mention of their relationship when the other hunters are present. Any mention of it she makes only when they are alone. The mentions she makes are still layered with lust and the intention that if she thought she could still have sex with him, she probably would. It’s a small form of torture too, because she can see it on his face how much it sickens him to have her making flippant references to how she used him. She would sooner have him struggle and fight with her than not react at all. There’s a moment where she talks about how much she loves that he hates her and it’s true. She feeds off his hatred, his rage and anger that gets thrown her way, because it’s tied in with the other things she got away with, so she feels as though no one can touch that aspect of her life. She can do these things and not get caught, she can break the code, kill a houseful of people in a fire -- sleep with a werewolf and no one will ever catch her in the act. It’s the main source of her pride and something she thinks on almost every day.

(Note: While Kate Argent has strong feelings about how much she enjoys torturing Derek, the author recognizes the cycle of abuse, as well as, how detrimental this is to Derek Hale and his overall well-being. The methods that Kate uses are not appropriate, nor do I condone them. While I do write the twisted and darker side of Kate, I do this with the permission of the other player first and foremost. I have a permissions post within her journal, as well, due to the nature of the content in her past and her actions that could arise in game.)

Another complicated relationship in her life is the one she shares with her niece. She offers Allison a chance to dive headfirst into what their family really does, and by doing so opens herself up as the person that can be trusted. She tries to go to Chris, tries to convince him to let Allison in on their history, but it never goes quite the way Kate wants it to. She still leaves hints, items for Allison to poke around in, to make her more curious about the secrets that Chris keeps from her. Kate uses the trust she has with Allison to leave hints, to give her small pieces of the puzzle in order to let Allison to the work. It’s important that Kate’s not the one to directly lead Allison toward the truth about the family, because she knows that it’s going against Chris’ wishes for his daughter. It’s another instance of her keeping the truth from her brother and trying to do what she feels is right, despite it not being the best way to handle the situation.

When Allison finally asks for the truth, it’s Kate that shows it to her. She brings her right into the belly of the beast. She shows her Derek chained up, points out things that she feels are vital for survival and she makes sure to impress upon her niece just what the difference is between her and the rest of them. Kate uses the trust she’s built up, she uses the near sister-like relationship that she’s fostered with Allison to explain how little the rest of the family thinks of her hunting ability. That they want to protect her while Kate wants to showcase her. It’s more manipulation and she knows that it will be the easiest way to get Allison to her side.

The thing is that her ploy works and she does gain Allison to her side, but her own pride will be her downfall. The hunting partner that Kate gains is quickly lost when Allison realizes that Kate is the one who started the Hale fire. It’s a wake-up call to both sides of their family - where one can be shaped by the Code and live by it and the other can be corrupted by it and force her way around it because she feels that waiting around to be hunted is a fools errand.

As for the other side, the casual side of Kate, she’s playful, which is another aspect of her manipulation, but this playful - nearly flirtatious, behavior is more invested in her pride and ego. She allows herself to be open, to take those risks without fear of rejection or pain because she feels untouchable in that aspect. Even if she doesn’t get what she wants, she’ll just find someone else that will provide. The playfulness also lends right into her sex drive, which is seemingly always on. Whether it’s the thrill of the hunt that edges her on, the fact that she has such high pride on her actions, or that she’s just that aware of her own body and needs - either way, she’s not shy about expressing what she’d like to do to whoever is catching her eye at the moment.

Deep down, Kate is a dark and twisted hunter that has lost control over what she’d been taught all her life. With her moral code so skewed it shifts everything else in her life to the point where her behavior can be seen as reckless and erratic at times. She doesn’t feel the need to apologize for the things she’s done, in fact she thinks she needs other people to apologize to her for making it seem like she’s done the wrong thing. It’s that level of psychosis that makes it hard for her to pull her wrong actions away from her moral high ground.

Kate even makes reference to it all being a joke to her. The fact that reality is fractured, that there are monsters like werewolves running around, she has to joke about it because anything else would be insanity. It’s a cold and crass truth, but it’s what fuels most of her motivation.

It also makes it harder for her to be honest with her family and the people that she actually does care about. Instead she seems to keep them at arms length, waiting for the moment they’ll betray her and leave her because of what she’s done. She balances along a very thin line of knowing just how much to tell her family and how far to push them away to keep herself safe.

When faced with her own death, with Peter’s hand on her throat, she watches Allison’s face and makes sure that Allison sees what Peter does with her apology. It’s not that she doesn’t mean it, it’s that she doesn’t know how to mean it anymore. Her death will still fuel Allison’s hatred for the werewolves and it will still push things further along. Even her death is a manipulation in a way, though she would’ve preferred to keep on living.

Kate’s life was a grand spectacle from start to finish. With her big talk and her tight clothing she commands attention and ensures that people listen to what she has to say, even if it’s not the best thing to say. She’s a violent force of nature that can consume and destroy as easily as she can bring people together. She’s a sister and a hunter and she died still believing that she had done what she was told to do, that the Code that shaped her life just betrayed her by making her choices into the wrong ones.

□ Age: 28
□ Gender: female
□ Appearance:

Katherine is a slender, lithe, female with dark blonde/tawny brown hair. She usually wears it down, with curl at the ends. Depending on what she’s doing it will determine how deep set her curls are. She rarely wears her hair up, preferring to have it down at shoulder length.

She has a strong frame, coming from years of training and exercise in order to put herself toe to toe with werewolves that will always overpower her. Her stride is strong and determined, always keeping her chin up and her head held high - exuding pride and confidence.

She’s well-aware of her appearance and uses her attractiveness to her advantage, using it to gain favor and flirt and seduce.

Kate doesn’t back away from personal space and uses that as another form of her power over other people, by being intimidating just in her physical presence.

Her clothing is in general from a muted palette of colors, from greys, blacks and browns to the occasional blue - but even the blue is a deeper tone, not in the bright colors. She’s a hunter, used to trying to hide her presence in the shadows and the woods, so bright hues aren’t always the smartest thing to wear. She layers her clothing, ensuring she has pockets and a heavy material as her outermost layer. She owns a dark denim jacket with a military front, that provides a double closure over her chest if she does zip it up.

□ Abilities/Powers:

Abilities:
Kate has been trained into the family traditions since a young age. This means she is very intelligent about werewolves and all of the different weaknesses they have. She has specially made bullets that contain an especially rare form of Wolfsbane. Her artillery supply is tailored to inflict pain and cause trauma specifically to werewolves.

She has a knack for history and research, but prefers to act over educate. She is a self-proclaimed girl that “learns by doing” and claims to hate the detective work.

She is weapons-qualified on most semi and fully automatic weapons. She can load, disassemble, reassemble and properly maintain most weapons that she owns. She is the type to shoot first and ask questions later, as seen in canon when she shoots Derek in the arm, believing him to be a werewolf that would die within 48 hours, but later ( in the novel On Fire) she questions herself and wonders if she really did hit a werewolf, because there was no report of a death within that time period.

She has an iron stomach of sorts and possibly even gains a level of excitement off of inflicting pain. However, she does actually state that she doesn't want to hurt Derek so she sends someone else in to do it. She’s skilled in electricity and small electronics assembly, since she’s able to set-up the electro-shock tool at the Hale house to torture Derek.

She’s well-versed in arson and has learned how to set fires to do the most damage possible from a chemistry teacher that taught at Beacon Hills High during the time of the Hale house fire.

She’s skilled in hand to hand combat, able to defend herself and can even teach others.

She’s also a good swimmer and is a certified lifeguard.

Weaknesses:
Kate is a human and has no supernatural advantages to her gain. She’s cold and calculated, but does have a strong family bond that can be used against her. She looks out for her niece and her brother and will put them before herself if she has to. She shows this

She’s also exceptionally proud and her confidence and general cockiness lend to her overstepping and making mistakes on impulse instead of fact-checking. Her setting the Hale house on fire before confirming that everyone was inside, the fact that she didn’t care if they were or were not werewolves yet - this is all tied into her pride and her refusal to admit that she’s doing something wrong when she believes it’s the right thing to do.

She’s also prone to delegate and use her position of power to make others do her dirty work, even if she doesn’t really dislike doing it. This requires a certain level of care that Kate usually is sloppy about keeping up with. Once more, her pride overshadowing her skill.
